Love this. Especially the whimsical schedule, the ruffy dog and “The tree wasn’t to blame!” 😆 Also so very appreciate your courage. Thank you for being such a good example for all of us. 🩵

Absolutely adore this letter! So glad I subscribed. I have a dogwood in my front yard and now I will think of you as I go to my car each day (or on the days I leave my house which isn't daily). ;)

Great to hear your voice again. Christianity always gets my hackles up. Curse the simple and beautiful dogwood tree? What a dummy, there’s plenty of other trees to fashion crucifixion sized crosses from.

Thanks, David! Agreed re cursing the lovely dogwood.

Not even a little stretch to see you chucking your cane for a carefree hound to bounce upon! Personally, I think that is a very dignified thing to have considered.

It is so nice to read your words again and shall relish every whimsically scheduled offering.

I'm laughing at all the notes I'm getting from folks who know me and can well imagine me throwing my cane to a canine!

As a dog lover I can certainly relate to the cane throwing urge, however I fear your cane may not have appreciated being firmly grasped in canine teeth, I applaud your restraint. I'm another in the 'small life noticing small things' stage and loving it. There are so many treasures asking to be seen it seems like the honorable or could I say even dignified thing to do for us to take our time to look at them and marvel at their unique offering to the world. I'm also particularly intrigued by the notion of whimsical scheduling - I may have to borrow that phrase when referring to my own somewhat sporadic communications with the world.

It's true, Caney already falls over all the time when I try to prop her up against walls and such, so she's had enough abuse. And yes to all the treasures! Please do borrow "whimsical scheduling". I thought I was quite clever for coming up with that wording. Works for someone who sometimes needs to hit pause, ya know?

I think it's definitely good that you're the sort of UNDIGNIFIED (😂) person who'd thrown your cane for a dog. How could it not be? ALSO... how I love dogwood ❤️

Dignity is probably overrated, right?

I just looked it up to see what the definition was:

*the state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect* ("a man of dignity and unbending principle") and *a composed or serious manner or style* ("he bowed with great dignity"). I think if you'd thrown your cane like a stick I'd have felt deep respect, and I'm definitely not down with composed or serious manners or styles!

I like your thinking. This is why you're the only one I think I've ever done a monkey dance for.

Well this gave me a good laugh, though I unfortunately don't remember the monkey dance! 😂

You were coming up the porch steps and I was in the kitchen doing monkey noises and well, "dance" might not be the right word, more like monkey gestures. You responded in kind.
